Tutoring
If you're working towards the Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design, I can offer the following tutorials:
Personal Tutorials Personal tutorials help you assess your progress and plan your next steps. If you're on the independent or supported route and want additional tutorials, I am happy to support you. Design Support Tutorials Design support tutorials help you progress a specific design. I have knowledge and/or experience in the following areas:
Technical Tutorials Regardless of whether you are on the diploma or not, I can offer technical tutorials in the following:
Personal and design support tutorials tend to be one-to-one, but technical tutorials can be offered to groups, making them highly cost effective, as the cost can be split between several people. Practicalities I'm happy to conduct tutorials face-to-face (I am based in Leeds and work regularly in Nottingham) or via skype. Fees for all tutorials: £30 per hour |
TeachingIf you're interested in organising a permaculture course in your local area, I can lead the following courses:
Introduction to permaculture This is a 16-hour course that introduces learners to the basics of permaculture design. Students will learn what permaculture is, understand its ethical basis, some of the design principles and tools. They will also have a chance to perform a simple design exercise. I can run this course in either of these formats:
Permaculture Design Course This is the globally recognised 72 hour PDC. It is certified by the permaculture Association (Britain). I can also offer optional formal accreditation (i.e. Ofqual regulated) for this course. I can run this course in the following formats.
Designing Beyond the PDC This course helps graduates of the PDC develop their design skills in a supportive environment. It is particularly useful to bridge the gap from designing in a group environment (as on the PDC) to being a confident, self-motivated individual designer. It is usually delivered as a weekend course. Sketchup for Permaculture A basic primer in how to use Google Sketchup as a tool for permaculture design. Students will learn the basics of sketchup, as well as the tools and features that are particularly useful for permaculture designers. Ecohomes course This 16 hour course gives learners a grounding in the basics of ecohomes. Students will gain basic energy literacy, understand how thermal energy behaves in buildings and learn strategies to improve energy efficiency. They will also learn about retrofit options and a range of renewable energy strategies. I can deliver this course in these formats:

Design
I can provide the following design-related services:
Permaculture Design Consultation For groups or individuals looking to develop their permaculture projects. Because Permaculture is a democratic design discipline, I'd rather teach you how to do it yourself, but I recognise that not everyone has the time or inclincation, so am happy to help. Architectural Visualisation For small design and architecture practices who are looking for professional quality renders for their projects. See my portfolio for examples of my work. Virtual Tour Production For place-based projects that want to enable people to virtually visit thier site. This can be particularly helpful for projects with limited resources, where hosting visitors can detract from the running the core business, or where there are other limits on the number of visits a site can physically host. See the virtual tour of Lilac that I produced for an example. Fees: £200 per day |
