Introduction

Hello and welcome to the Leeds Ecohomes evening class, supported by Leeds Permaculture Network and the Workers' Educational Association.

Over the next seven weeks we'll look at a number of approaches to low energy buildings - both new build and refurbishment - and you will have the opportunity to see a number of case studies.

Denby Dale Passivhaus

Below is a short video introducing the passivhaus philosophy as it was applied to a new-build house in Denby Dale, West Yorkshire. Throughout the course, we'll revisit this project to explore the technical details.

Lilac

Lilac stands for Low Impact Living Affordable Community. It's a cohousing neighbourhood and Mutual Home Ownership Society. It is built using a prefabricated strawbale panel system called Modcell.

Project film

Here is a short film about the project that was made before construction began:

Construction slide show

The slideshow below follows the build process at Lilac and points out some of the aspects of how it was built. It's not a definitive guide by any means!
